"Hard Times" by Anjo Lafin

This is an interesting piece. It is easy to assimilate and empathize with the emotional struggle of these two fine figures! Lafin uses deep rich, warm, earth-tone colors to highlight quality even in poor circumstance. The subtle reference to characteristics like back-bone - a symbol of resilience and tenacity - and heart, remind us of important core values. One could contend that the figural disfiguring is a reflection of the ugliness of the world, rather than insight into the character beneath.

Changing the Culture...

It is with shared attitudes, values, goals, practices and perseverance that we set out to change cultural perceptions of the digital fine arts. Once thought to be primarily a vehicle for advertisers, the digital arts movement has leapt into the 21st Century with renewed vigor. It has become a wider more broadly accepted form of art. I encourage you to embrace this global cultural change and lay to rest any preconceived attitudes about what we do and how we do it. We are artists, exploring new challenges, pioneering a new genre. We are on the precipice of a truly remarkable time. ENJOY!

    "Yellow Bush" by Bogdan Zwir

Zwir offers a bold message in centering the background image in yellow. Yellow, especially in contrast to shades of black/gray, makes for a definitive statement of purpose. Used in this manner it is not a shy color. The choice to include the well crafted bush adds depth and dimension, bringing life to the cold prison -like imagery of the surround. The artist leads the eye to a place were there is life albeit tarnished. The lack of a top/ceiling in this walled cell conveys hope even in the bleakest of circumstance. Whether intended or not, the work pays homage to the plight of the oppressed.

"Aries - Ancient God of Ram" by Ludwig Leiter

The work draws you in; it gives pause. A piece that is dark in meaning and imagery (perhaps a bit too dark visually) with social commentary intent. The piling effect of the discarded ram carcasses seems reminiscent of the loss of strength, privilege and power. The death of an elite social class.

Quotes:

"Art is not the application of a canon of beauty but what the instinct and brain can conceive beyond any canon. When we love a woman we don't start measuring her limbs."
-PABLO PICASSO-

"All of us failed to match our dreams of perfection. So I rate us on the basis of our splendid failure to do the impossible."
-WILLIAM FAULKNER-
