Apostolos was born Apostolos Panagopoulos in Thessalonica, North Greece, and was brought up in Athens, where he began studying visual arts and theatre before moving permanently to The Netherlands. At the University of Utrecht he studied the history of art, and after participating in a number of audiovisual projects worked as art director in both film and theater, and as head teacher at the Academy of Arts of Utrecht. He is an accomplished painter in oil tempera. These 15 images included here derive from a digital art series titled Omnimedial, whose themes are largely classical, biblical, historical and mythical, not unmixed with a contemporary viewpoint. He uses photo resources and various image and video processing computer programs. He writes, "My inspiration, sources and aims remain always the same. I see myself not so much as a traditional painter but more as a storyteller... With an alphabet of cultural memories, quotations from the past and signs of our everyday reality, I try to build up mirrors in which someone could face The Human Condition."

Luca Cervini, born in 1983 in Merate, Italy, earned a diploma in graphics in Milan in 2003, with a specialty in advertising design.

His interests include comics, illustration, narrative, poetry, photography, and cinema. His digital art is symbolist-surreal, painted, drawn and collaged on the computer. He writes that his art

"represent[s] the awareness of a past or forthcoming change [and] contain[s] deep messages expressed by means of the symbolic combination of different elements." He says his work is "sometimes ominous, sometimes sad."

Charles Csuri

Self-Programmed Art

In the era of the punch-card computer Charles Csuri turned from a successful career as a modernist painter to the improbable potential of digital art. That was in 1964. Now at the age of 83, Csuri is recognized as one of the great teachers, researchers and pioneers of computer art. He is today professor emeritus at Ohio State University, where he taught and headed up its digital art program for many years. He is one of the fathers of programmed and algorithmic art, of 3D still art and animation, of virtual reality, and his work has influenced such fields as flight simulation, magnetic resonance imaging, game design and more. His students populate many digital animation companies including Pixar, Industrial Light and Magic, and Silicon Graphics, and his own art and research have been celebrated worldwide in many shows and publications. Inluded here is a short and almost a random sampling of still images by the artist. Some works are algorithmic and fractal-like, one ("Fear") includes hand drawing, and all were drawn in whole or in part by software code of the artist's devising.
